The Home Guard
After having served as a conscript to the Royal Danish Guard I decided to join the Home Guard.
This is a danish military unit, consisting of wollountees. The unit I've joined is an active combat unit,
situated in Jonstrup, Copenhagen.I joined the unit on the 25th of August, 2006.
"Why the Home Guard?" you might ask. In fact, a lot of people ask me that question, laughing their ass off.
I can only say: They don't know what it's all about!
In the Home Guard we no longer preapare for the russian invation. We prepare ourselves to assist the danish
police force and the firedepartment during crisis. If there is need of volunteers to help sorting out train
crash or to search an area for missing persons, the Home Guard is called.
The part of our education focusing on military assignments is designed to be used against enemy terror
organisations who might infiltrate Denmark and to secure both military and civillian objects if they're deemed
to be in danger of sabotage/terror actions.
So next time you laugh at a member of the Home Guard, think about who you'd expect to help out if Nordre Port S-train-station where bombed by terrorists? Would there be enough police, firefighters ect. to effectively block off the site for the paramedics to do their work? The regular pop-dude doen the street? Not bloody likely..
